Level Grinding....

WHO: John Egbert, Sakurako Shiina, King Arthur, Madoka Kugimiya, and Miki Onimaru
WHERE: Out and about in the dark hour.
WHEN: The dark hour tonight.
WHAT: John and Sakurako get in over their heads while trying to level grind. They are bailed out by his new not!dad and Sakurako's new not!mom. And also Sakurako's new not!sister will be jumping in after the excitement is over.

[They'd done well for themselves so far. Most of the monsters that wandered around outside the dungeon were weak enough that a few applications of the windy thing and several blows from a hammer or a well placed bocci balls could take them down. They're about ready to call it a night, when they notice another couple of shadows at the end of the street.]

You want to get those too?

Sure! We've got all night!

Okay, here goes. Pegasus! Garu!

[The impressive gust of wind.... does absolutely nothing.]

Hm..... Umm...... It didn't work.

[He looks at her questioningly, and she steps forward.]

Don't worry, I've got it! Maneki Neko! Garu!

[Same attack. Same result.]

I think they're immune....

[Immune. And still advancing.]

Okay, new idea! Tactical retreat!

[Sakurako pumps her fist in the air and takes off running, John following fast behind. The Shadows are still nipping at their heels. Looks like they drew some serious aggro here, guys.]

[He glances back at the advancing shadows, and then back to her.]

[He yanks her around a corner, hoping to lose their pursuers.]

[Glancing back behind them...]

[There's a momentary little sparkle of light around the two of them, and then... nothing.]

See! It doesn't do anything at all!

[For a second there, it looked like something cool was about to happen.]

Umm... maybe it heals people?

Well, I think we'd have to stop and fight those things to find out...

DON'T WORRY DAUGHTER, MOM'S HERE TO HELP! ARES! BASH!

[Miki comes running from down the far end of the street, Ares materializes and swiftly crushes the closest shadow chasing the two kids. Miki arrives a few moment's later, turns, and keeps pace with the kids.]

Are you alright Sakurako?

[Yeah, between the hectic nature of the combat and her usual flighty nature, Sakurako has no time whatsoever to dissect the weird daughterly emotions she's suddenly feeling toward Miki.]

You're out of jail! What happened?

Your grandma got the money from some guy and bailed me out! I can explain later but BASH! we should probably deal with all these things first!

[Looking questioningly at Sakurako.]

[Maneki Neko lets out another burst of light, strengthening Miki's physical attack power.]

[Feeling the boost flow through her, Miki quickly pivits and punds her fist into an advancing shadow's face, blasting backwards into another shadow.]

Thanks! So who is this guy? Is he one of your friends?

[Very impressed with her shadow smashing, John is quick to go with the polite response.]

I'm John Egbert, Ma'am. It's nice to meet you.

[And he whispers to Sakurako.]

Your mom is really strong....

John's gonna be in my band! He plays the keyboard.

[Sakurako turns to drop a quick Tarukaja on John too, in case it's HAMMERTIME soon.]

[Miki punctuates her final question by roundhousing a shadow.]

[Ares appears long enough to cause a shadow to explode.]

How did you two manage to get so many of these things to follow you??

Wait! Kid?!? That's not-! I mean we're not-! We're just friends!

[His brain is pretty much completely derailed here, and he's blushing so very much. He's also turned his attention completely on Miki and not the shadow that's looking to tear his head off in a second. Someone should probably point that out.]

[It's not like he wouldn't go help out someone in trouble to begin with but WHOA MAN SUDDENLY ALL THE FAMILIAL FEELINGS. Saber runs to kill the shadow with the urgency of a father who's just about to see his son get killed, and there's no way he's letting that happen!!]

Watch out! [Not for the shadow, but for the fact that he's killing the shadow RIGHT THERE AND THEN gotta love sword skills man. Once it's taken care of though, he turns to John.] Are you alright? You're not hurt, are you?

[John's brain is trying desperately to process what just happened. He'd just been rescued from a danger he hadn't even noticed by a guy his brain is telling him he's never even met. A guy who he somehow just knows is awesome and dependable and someone whom John really wants wants to impress even though he'd never admit it. kind of like his Dad... And probably also someone who is expecting an answer sometime this week.]

[John scarcely has time to process what the girl's are saying and doesn't feel the need to correct either of them. It feels weirdly.... right. He offers an embarrassed grin.]

It's alright, I'm just glad you're okay. [At the girls though he flashes a huge, proud grin, the kind that fathers have when they're just so indescribably happy with their son. Sure he has no idea where this feeling came from, but IF IT FEELS RIGHT IT FEELS RIGHT.]

That's right, I'm John's dad and John is my son, though I guess that's a bit redundant. It's nice to meet both of you. [In the middle of a fight, but THAT'S OKAY HE CAN GET TO KILLING SHADOWS AGAIN IN A SEC.]

[For the third time, Maneki Neko works its mojo to increase the young king's attack power. Sakurako pumps her fists in the air excitedly in a mock cheer to accompany the stat up.]

You're pretty strong! You might even be as strong as mom!

[assaultedramen]

He might be, even if he has to use a sword to do it! Your son seems pretty nice, EVIL TOUCH!

[Ares appears to blast a nearby shadow with a fear affect.]


hopefully you've trained him as well with that hammer!

[Miki advances on the cowering shadow, laughing it it's impending destruction.]

[Okay, now he feels like he has to do something impressive, if only to save face in front of his Dad. He grins at Miki.]

You haven't seen anything yet!

[Shadows are quicker opponents than imps, John has learned that the hard way. But he's ready for that now. He brings the hammer down hard on the nearest shadow, then spins it in his hand and scores a second hit with the hooked end while the shadow is still disoriented.]

Hehe, how was that?

[That question was directed partly at Miki and partly at Saber. Were you watching, Dad? Huh? Were you? ]

Let's throw this one in for more confusion....

[Good thing you guys have things under control shadow-wise, since this gives a panicking Madoka time to come out of nowhere and give Sakurako a hug all the while speaking a mile a minute...]

Oh thank god you're okay sis! I looked outside and it was this weird green night going on with these black monster things everywhere and I just had to make sure you and dad were okay which is weird because I don't think my dad's even here but you seriously need to tell me what the heck is going on why you're out here where you can get hurt and hey is that a floating cat...?

[The pause she takes to notice Maneki Neko not only allows Madoka a moment to catch her breath, but actually get a look at who else is around.]

Oh hey, you're John, right?

[OF COURSE HE WAS WATCHING SON and he is so proud... /wipes happy tear, being a father is great if only he knew sooner!!]

You're doing great, John! If you want, we can even train together later. [Family training time aww yis.]

Haha, well I'm sure he'll be plenty better than me soon enough.
