...The quandary lies in the fact that in this case, the truth cannot win either. A mistaken impression of your line of reasoning would emerge from such a fight, and you would be punished accordingly. I have seen what can happen to someone who is wrongfully declared insane. Upon his release, the former defendant found his life in ruins -- his former job unattainable, his fiancee dead from suicide, his words never heeded again. He was forced to play the role in which society had typecast him for nearly his entire life thereafter. He grew so bitter that another man was even able to manipulate him into becoming an instrument of vengeance.

Your crime... is not so heinous as to deserve that.
