Be a great wall that towers over all.

Who: Issei ([livejournal.com profile] unknownrival) and everyone else~
Where: Ace Karaoke, a karaoke bar.
When: 7:30 PM of September 20th and onward.
Summary: Singing. It is happening. You can't stop it.

The karaoke bar is well-lit, in good repair, and is generally a nice establishment before some people get into it. There is a stage with several microphones on it and a karaoke machine. You select the song you want to play from a book, enter the numbers in the machine, and it starts playing the instrumentation (and backing vocals) while showing you the words you should be singing.

If you don't like any of the selections, you can connect a laptop to the karaoke machine and select a karaoke track from elsewhere for the machine to play.

Food and drink are available, and not all of the drink is alcoholic. Customers who get too rowdy will be asked to leave, but everyone gets a little braver with some drink in them, and sometimes that's needed to get up on stage and sing like you don't know how terribly you're singing.

[Kaiji will approach, curious about the instrument Devola's got with her.]

Yeah. It just plays the background music for you to sing over, and the words show up on the screen.

Looks like you came ready to put on your own show, though.

[She laughs, a hint of embarrassment in her tone.]

I think I misconstrued the meaning of "place where you sing along to music" I heard over the phone. A little. That'll teach me to start asking questions when I'm trying something new, huh?

[identity profile] genius-idiot.livejournal.com 2011-09-21 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Eh, that's okay. No big deal. And there's nothin' really stopping you from playing it anyway. Ah... what is it, anyway?

[identity profile] skaldssong.livejournal.com 2011-09-22 03:37 am (UTC)(link)
What, this? I think the technical term is a lute... I dunno, I never really referred to it by name. Or at all, come to think of it.

[identity profile] genius-idiot.livejournal.com 2011-09-22 02:08 pm (UTC)(link)
But I take it you know how to play it? How'd you learn to play it if you didn't even know what it was called?

[She's got something of a self-satisfied smile as she responds, tapping on the body of the instrument.]

Made it myself. This one, anyway. A friend gave me the first one, but it was... ah, kind of old. And it got even older.

That's pretty impressive. I'm totally tone deaf, so I'm gonna do this place a favor and keep away from the mic. You should give it a try, though.

[For the sake of comedy and "Being Saber is Suffering (http://velvetkeylogs.livejournal.com/12561.html?thread=846097#t846097)" we'll assume her excellent cover of... unique source material begins to occur around this point!]

...Oh, I don't know. I think the point is to have fun, no matter how or what you do at the mic.

[identity profile] genius-idiot.livejournal.com 2011-09-23 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
[STARING AT THIS A MOMENT.]

Whoa, what the hell.... Alright, point made.

[identity profile] skaldssong.livejournal.com 2011-09-23 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Doing something embarrassing seems to be just as fun as doing something well! Actually...

[And now she's looking and...

...Is that "The Itsy-Bitsy Spider" in the track listing?

H m m m.]

[identity profile] genius-idiot.livejournal.com 2011-09-23 12:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[He looks over her shoulder to see what she's looking at. Honestly, it can't be any worse than what Saber's going through, right?]

[identity profile] skaldssong.livejournal.com 2011-09-24 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
[Well. On one hand, it's definitely goofy. Obviously some kind of a schoolkid's song. On the other?

It might just be comedy gold.]

Hm, what'cha think?

[identity profile] skaldssong.livejournal.com 2011-09-26 04:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Already on it~

[And, with the goofy smile of someone who knows they're doing something silly but will do it anyway, she heads to the mic.

The difference between a person's voice when speaking and when singing can be fairly noticeable. In Devola's case a high-pitched, almost mousy tone molds itself into a rich soprano voice.

But in the end, no matter how trained her voice is, no matter how skilled at vocals she is.

"The Itsy-Bitsy Spider" is still "The Itsy-Bitsy Spider."

Still, she seems to enjoy herself. To the extent that she bursts into a fit of giggles when she sits back down afterward.]

[Kaiji's pretty surprised when she starts singing like that. Who knew?

Still, it's pretty silly, and he smirks the whole time, and then bursts into applause when she's done.]
