ITP: Two great Men, shared life

"You know it, don't you?"

When Shirou was wandering alone, trying to get to Saber before she gets into any more trouble, he was cut off by a voice.

A voice that is certainly similar to his, only distorted by some other force.

"...Know what?"

He asked back.

"That you'll die when you face her."

The statement caused him to stop dead in his tracks when a figure literally coalesced from his own shadow in front of him. A figure wearing the Homurahara School uniform, as well as sharing his own face don't steal my face.

"Even knowing so, you still wish to save her, bec-"

"I will save everyone"

Both of them said the very same sentence that formed the core of the existence called Shirou Emiya. In fact, this had happened before in his own room, when he was pinned to the wall by Caliburn; the very same sword in the stone that the Shadow created in order to stop him from struggling with being killed. Fortunately, Kiritsugu's interference stopped that plan before it could even be realized.

Now, with no way for Kiritsugu to interfere, Shirou stared back at his other, who, unlike their last encounter, now dons a face that is a cross between a sincere look as well as a crazed look.

"It always was that way, wasn't it? Chasing after Kiritsugu's ideal, even though you know it could never be realized."

Shut up.

"You know it, right? That you can't save everyone? IN FACT, YOU DID KNOW THAT YOU FAILED THEM! Saber being drowned by that woman! Issei being killed by those zombies! Yo- NO, WE COULDN'T SAVE ANYONE THAT WE WANT TO SAVE!"

Shut up shut up shut up

"That's why we should die. We should die together so we wouldn't suffer through the truth of our-"

"...Even if you're right about my ideals being futile, I'm not just going to stand down like that!"

He shouted, but the Shadow immediately picked up where he left off, ignoring the outburst that Shirou himself just did, as well as tracing Caliburn.

"That's why, even if you do accept me, I want you to die. SO WE CAN DIE TOGETHER!"

And with that, both males charged forward, one with a normal sword, and the other with the Sword in the Stone.

[At this stage, both of them are just staring warily at each other while the Shadow does most of the talking.

...Might want to intervene before it gets worse.]

"Emiya!"

Right, that would be Issei rushing up to Shirou's side. He rests a hand on Shirou's shoulder, gripping it tightly. "You idiot, what are you doing out alone?"

"Oh, look, its Issei! The person you failed to save from those zombies!"

Shattered out of his attentive state of staring at the Shadow lest it does something, Shirou quickly turned to Issei.

...Damn it, he's not supposed to be involved!

"Issei, I'm trying to find Saber."

"That doesn't excuse you going alone. You should have asked me to come with you," Issei chided. "It's safer that way."

"I was about to ask someone for help, if that counts."

Actually, no, Shirou's not going to ask but eh, he's that kind of an idiot.

"That's at least a little better. Now then. What's he been bothering you with?"

Glaring at the Shadow, Issei stepped a little closer to Shirou, protective as usual.

"A lot of things that I had admitted to doing."

The Shadow twitched when Shirou said that with a serious look on his face, as if all the accusations the Shadow leveled at him were accepted without any problems whatsoever due to Shirou's empty nature.

"Then what exactly is the problem involved?" Couldn't they just go back to the hotel?

"He's just a stubborn one."

Going back to the hotel would defeat the purpose of this post, wouldn't it?

In any case, the shadow had enough of being ignored, and just charged at Issei, fist raised.

"Issei, watch out-!"

Funny thing about fists, is that swords are usually made of stronger stuff than them and can be used to block.

"Excuse me. What quarrel do you have with me, Shadow?"

"That you're someone getting in my way!"

And with that said, the Shadow is summoning its own sword with his free hand, the Caliburn, and performed an upward slash at Issei!

Ow ow ow, that really hurt a lot. Issei stumbled backwards.

"Is that really what you think-?!"

"Of course, you were always worried about anything I did! And sometimes you even stopped me from rushing into other people's problems!"

The shadow was about to bring the sword down, and luckily Shirou managed to block it in time.

"Because I care about you, moron! Is that worth punishment?!"

Recovering, recovering was an important thing to do now. Issei steadied himself, sword raised defensively.

[They're now fighting, and while their fighting skills are equal, their swords are not. After all, normal swords couldn't just match up to Caliburn.

At this point, you're allowed to jump in to give Shirou assistance against his deranged repressed issues.]

Idiots.

Not that Lancer was one to call someone out on confronting their Shadow alone, but this was not improving his image of Shirou as an utter moron.

With the sharp sound of metal on metal, one of Diarmuid's lances met the blades held by each version of Shirou--coming between them completely without fear, he halted even Caliburn from landing a strike on its target.

"Fool. Rushing into a fight so recklessly, what would Arturia say if you were hurt?"

"Look, that guy just attacked me suddenly, I had no choice but to fight back!"

Shirou replied annoyingly as he pulled his blade from the three-way blade lock, while his Shadow immediately broke it and tried to attack Diarmuid.

"And here comes Diarmuid, who clearly deserved Saber more than us! Oh, right, I forgot HE ACTUALLY STOLE HER FROM US!"

There was no silent reaction, no freezing from Shirou, but only determination as he looked at Diarmuid.

"...You want to help me beat this guy up?"

"Hmph--such a delusion you seem to have." Diarmuid parried the blade again--Caliburn's strength put a lot of strain on his weaponry, but he believed he could manage.

"The only way to truly defeat them is through acceptance. But at this rate, I think subduing him first would be the best option. Shall we?"

"This might be weird for you to hear it, but..."

Shirou said as he entered a battle stance, opposite his own mirror.

"I don't care if you accept me! I don't care about anything because I. Feel. Nothing."

"...He's just as stubborn as me."

Which is not really the news of the week.

"..."

It was harder to resist when someone was unconscious.

So he swung the blunt end of his lance directly at the head of Shirou's shadow.

It wasn't like he hadn't been wanting to smack him around a little.

One good thing that Diarmuid will find would be the fact that Shirou's shadow is not that well-versed in close combat, but the bad thing that stems from that would be Caliburn being stronger than your average sword.

As well as a Noble Phantasm.

Hence, the reason why the Shadow could parry Diarmuid's lance with some effort.

This was annoying. But Caliburn or not, Diarmuid could see clearly enough to tell the Shadow was inexperienced. And even with a Noble Phantasm, he could take advantage of that.

And considering this is two against one, the Shadow was clearly on the losing side as it continued to get battered by Shirou's sword and Persona, as well as Diarmuid's skill with the lances.

This beating up didn't continue for long, though, as both assailants then found themselves being blocked by a golden barrier, as well as being thrown away by it.

"Wha-"

Was the only thing Shirou could manage as a very familiar sheath is being held by the Shadow.

"...oh, you must be joking-...!"

Lancer was very much not stupid. He'd recognized Excalibur at a glance during the war, he could recognize Caliburn when he saw it, so surely this was...

"Tell me that's not Avalon."

"Its not Avalon."

Shirou said as he ducked another blow from his shadow, and parried it away.

"Its a slightly watered-down copy of it!"

"That's not better--!"

But hell, might as well keep trying to attack. Because why the hell not.

"Well, no! But hopefully he can't hold it for too long!

Pendragon!"

With that, Shirou summoned his dragon Persona, which rushed at the shadow in order to buy time for the two of them, which worked somewhat, as the shadow is now focused on fending of Pendragon while at the same time trying to block Diarmuid's attacks!

It's on now.

"Cu Chulainn!"

Adding his own Persona's lightning to Pendragon's assault, Lancer struck out again in an attempt to knock Avalon from the Shadow's hands.

Fortunately, that attempt did knock it away.

Unfortunately, the lull in that second of surprise caused the shadow to summon its own Persona to defend itself from the combined assault of the two men.

'Tch-!"

Sorry, did you say 'more lightning'?

Because that's what you're getting.

Good, because those lightning is going to keep the Shadow at bay, long enough for Shirou to actually get close enough, and say one fact that has been certain to him.

"You're me, and I'm..."

Raising his fist at his shocked Shadow, the boy who wished to be an ally of justice.

Punched his own darkness in the face.

"YOU!"

[ Guess who's leaping right in between Shirou and his Shadow with her own sword, trying to counter the Shadow's blade. ]

[Considering the skill gap between Shirou and Saber, it was not surprising that Saber could counter the shadow's blade easily.]

Saber-! You're alright!

[Relief washed over Shirou's face, while the shadow's contorted into one of anger.]

You, why are you here!?

[ No one's permitted to strike at her boyfriend.

This includes said boyfriend. ]

I am where I need to be! [ Which is here to defend Shirou naturally. ] If you think you stand a chance, I implore you to reconsider!

You know me far too well, Saber-!

[The shadow jumped back, before tracing Avalon, and charging at her blindly-!]

After all, I am but a stubborn fool who wished to save someone I can't save!

Shir--

[ Before she can finish his name, she's blinded as well. Enough so that he's successful in rushing at her, knocking the smaller girl down to the ground roughly. Her hand doesn't let go of her blade even though she slides a bit, wincing in pain.

Melee combat.. one on one.. it was never her strong point. Yet, she wasn't going to allow him to harm Shirou. Forcing herself back up to her feet, she grits her teeth. ]

Leave now before I force you!

Force me?

[The golden glow of Avalon shielded him from any damage, there was no way that even Saber could defeat him in this state.]

Force me with what, exactly, traitor?

[ Traitor.

The single word freezes her in place. ]

... Ah. [ She manages that sound at least. ]

Of course, what chance do I have in having a wonderful person like you as a lover? Oh wait, because I'm worth nothing from the beginning!

I just wanted to save you, and yet you turned to your new knight as if I'm nothing.

That's alright, because I am nothing in the first place.

[As the Shadow continued to spout this, Shirou is going to just. Bullrush him in this short moment.]

You may insult me all you will, but I will not stand by while you speak ill of Shirou!

[ Well, she'll try to outrun Shirou towards his own Shadow, but maybe they can both approach him at the same time for old time's sake. ]

This ends here, fiend!

Don't you get it, wench? I AM HIM!

[And before both of them could even reach him, the boy had raised his sword arm and brought it down for a slash on Saber, right at the moment Shirou jumped to take the blow.]

Then I will not permit my beloved to speak so cruelly o--!!

[ Damn it, Shirou! She was caught up in trying to earn the focus of his Shadow that she didn't calculate that Shirou himself would be the first person to reach him. ]

Shirou! [ More fright than anything. Even Saber can be scared now. ]

[Reeling back, Shirou grunted as he then moved to punch the Shadow, who used Avalon to phase out..

There was no way he's going to let his repressed self injured the one he loved.]

Even if you say that things about her, you completely forgot one thing-!

[Even if he knew that this next blow would be futile, he pressed on nonetheless, as his determination surprised even his own Shadow for a second. Which was a good time for the projection of Avalon to break.]

That even if she didn't love me, even if I was unable to save her-!

[Blows after blows rained down on the Shadow, before it all ended with a roundhouse kick.]

I know that deep down, I love her!

Shirou!

[ It doesn't take her very long to spring back into action, leaping between him and the Shadow (the kick surely sent him back just a bit, right?), her sword up in hands. All she had to do was strike him down for her beloved.

Yet, she can't bring herself to attack his Shadow. ]
