A poor excuse for an argument

Garviel scowls at the door to his room. Beatrice is late. Surely she hasn't ignore his invitation to dinner, not after the feast he laid out. An entire roast duck, several kinds of tea and various delicious sweets, as well as ice cream, all on a rather elaborate-looking tray that he'd spent an entire week's wages on requesting from the Bay View's staff.

He looks down at the various dinner forks arrayed before him after failing to melt the door with his scowl, and puzzles over what they are all for.

[ He touches his chest.]

His blood, the blood of his sons, flows in us all!

[ He almost snarls at her. ]

Speak no further of this heresy. I will serve no other.

[Oh, his devotion is completely darling. It'll cause her a light, girlish giggle.]

Funny, then. That blood tastes as coppery and mortal as any.

Since I've had a taste, though, does that mean your emperor is inside of me, too? I suppose he beat you to the punch, hm~?

That makes it okay to bow to me, now, doesn't it~?

No.

Just..... go. Go now.

[ He turns his back on her, his face a mask of rage and disbelief before he turns. ]

[After a moment, he'll feel her arms wrap around his chest from behind. A gentle embrace to make truce for harsh words.]

You wanted a war. My words are my sword and shield. It seems I've left you a little wound to lick.

It's just that...you remind me of someone I knew. I can no longer fight against him, so I search for another opponent. One who bears such denial as a badge on his chest...

[ Garviel puts his hands over hers for a moment, not to ward them away, but rather to hold them there. ]

It sounds like you cared for him. Tell me about him.

[Certainly he'll feel the deep sigh against his back before she begins.]

I did care for him. Even here, my feelings are mixed, but they fall back to him when I am alone.

I waited so long for him. I wanted him to understand me, to acknowledge me. I wanted him to remember. I was brought here and we never got to complete our game...

[ Garviel just nods, and gives her hand a little squeeze, indicating he is listening, and it is okay to keep talking. ]

I created a game to challenge him. A world to break him down. I used his precious family as chess pieces and removed them from the board as I saw fit.

Such a plan would have been poetry. This man who so loved mystery could be my opponent until he could recall his promise and yield to me.

He loved to deny me, my magic, and all that I stood for, though. He had a strong will. So you see, you quite remind me of him.

That was cruel. Of both of you, I mean. Why would he not accept you... why could he not remember his promise? And what was it?

Cruelty is universal. We both understood it.

To accept me is to accept his own failings. No man does that without a struggle.

I cannot tell you why a man forgets, nor can I tell you his sins. They are for him to remember and suffer with.

My apologies for ruining your dinner...and your plans. If you still wish for me to go, I will.

I would say they are not ruined at all. For in this moment you let your mask slip, and I understood you are more than just a cruel witch, a I have always said.

You are like anyone else with an emotional attachment. You hurt each other. [ He holds her hand once more. ]

I think that is an eternal truth of humanity.

[There will be a long period of silence, now. Perhaps she opened up a bit too much. She hated to ruin her reputation in such a way, but it felt nice to just...vent. Well, there was no way of taking back her words, now. She'd have to move forward as best she could.]

The fact that I feel doesn't make me less cruel. If you wish to remain close to me, chances are good that I may say or do something that will upset you horribly. I cannot help it and I cannot change.

I will not change.

And I will not always apologize.

If you can understand that, then you've reached my truth.

Nor will I. We shall crash into each other time and again, and hurt each other.

And... if you'd like, we can lick each others' wounds as well.

We are both very different, that I do accept. [ This doesn't mean he won't stop trying to bring out the best parts of Beatrice though, Haha. ]

You have much more stamina than I gave you credit for.

If you don't mind braving the thorns to pick the rose, then it's not like I can deny you.

We are very different. Let us keep that fact in mind, but not let it be our defining trait.

[He can try.~ ♥]

[ Loken nods turning in her grasp so that he's facing her, and embracing her, drawing her close to his chest. No stolen kiss this time, just a comforting sort of hug. He doesn't say anything. ]

[She'll rest her head to his chest, comforted by the steady beat of his heart. She wouldn't normally be so easy to appease, but she felt he deserved the embrace after the things she'd said. And maybe, perhaps, she liked this man's attention.]

You're very warm. Both physically and emotionally. I don't say that about a lot of people.

That doesn't apply to many people.

So you say. [ He really isn't sure how to take the compliment, or even thank her, so he just holds her a while longer. ]

[She'll take advantage of the embrace for as long as she can reason before pulling herself away.]

Have you any reason to question me~?

We should try to salvage dinner if we can.

You...don't have to hold me like that. I'm not glass. I won't break. Please don't assume I'm fragile, now that I've opened up a bit to you.

That's not the case.

All right. Eat, then. [ He starts eating too, sitting back down and occasionally sipping wine. ]

I don't think you are fragile at all. Well... no more fragile than any other human. Remember, I'm used to being able to smash through steel doors barehanded. I'm... I'm unwilling to accidentally hurt someone.

[This intense mood is simply not for her. Undaunted, she'll prop herself up on the table itself and pick some food off of his plate as well as a few sips of his wine.]

You hold me as though I might flutter away from you at any moment. Are you really so concerned~?
I am with you, now. And I do not intend to leave unless you wish it. That's enough, isn't it~? ♥

It is enough, at that.

[ He shrugs his shoulders. ]

As for being concerned, I don't know. This isn't something I have done before.

[She'll cross one leg over the other so as to appear the slightest bit modest.]

Oh, that's right. You're not very well versed in courting, are you~? I suppose that's apparent in how plainly you suggest sex. You're a simple man. It's a shame you did not choose someone simple to be the object of your lust.

I want who I want. If you were simple, it is unlikely I would find you intriguing.

It seems I've been told that quite recently by someone other than you.

[She'll break off a bit of food and hold it to his mouth while making a slight 'ah' gesture with her own.]

What about me is so intriguing to you, hm~?

[ Loken takes a moment to figure out what she's doing, then will open his mouth so she can feed him, looking slightly confused by the whole thing.]

I wish I could say. Probably because you are infuriating, honestly. You enrage me one moment, are tender the next. Confusing without being... truly chaotic.
