[Text; Response from Sakurako]

[Early in the Morning, everyone who was reported as murdered will get the following text:]

Hey! ! know you all have been through a lot and probably feel k!inda down so come to the bookstore ton!ght at 7 and well cheer you up!!

Action: Gil's bookstore

[Anyone who comes into Gil's bookstore around 7 am will find it decked out with a banner saying "Welcome Back!" On a table stands a sheet cake frosted with the letters "You're Alive again!" and a post of soup simmering away on a hot plate. Around both of these are a number of smaller plates holding a much fancier cake, strawberry and all, each with the name of one of the victims written on it. The cafe cats are decorated with a ribbon of their own, to varying degrees of annoyance to each of them. They have been joined by Sakurako's cats Cookie and Biscuit, who seem to be enjoying their stint as the center of interest to a number of their fellow felines.

In the back stands a small Karaoke machine, beeping away in an attempt to generate interest. The couches and chairs have been pushed flush with the outer bookshelves to create a bit more space for people to mingle.

Miki is sitting at the counter, waiting to get coffee (or I guess, sell books) to anyone who is interested in buying some extra stuff.]

*Kaoru walks in, B|-ing as usual. She stops at the doorway...

[Miki walks over to Kaoru when she sees her walk in. She begins talking with a big smile on her face.]

"Hey! Welcome back! There is a special cake for all of the... er... revivers over on the table."

Is this common practice?

Err... not really. But normally people don't come back after dying.

Nobody threw V/V a party.

[Edgeworth hates parties. If he didn't suspect that avoiding a party with this particular purpose would be a serious social faux pas -- especially when he's trying to unite people under the purpose of making sure things like what happened to the guests of honor don't become commonplace -- he wouldn't be here at all. As it is, he's leaning against a wall that allows him a view of the most open part of the bookstore, sipping away at a mug filled with some of the soup.

The prosecutor hasn't been to this bookstore since his Persona awakened here, despite having heard that others had made the first hero back down from his extreme censorship regime. Between those memories and the case this party revolves around, there's clearly a lot on this wallflower's mind...]

[Oh shit, now Miki feels bad.]

I... erm... this was a bit more spontaneous on me and Sakurako's part. It probably won't happen every time someone dies.

[Miki's pops up behind the deep in thought Edgeworth, looking rather annoyed. She begins, sharply,]

Uhg, what are you doing here? I'm pretty sure you can't arrest me for having a party.

Oh...Ok. Well there is a piece of cake for you. We can get one for V/V if she shows up, or she can have Asuka's.

*Kaoru shrugs again. Asuka doesn't like her anyway.* Hm.

[Edgeworth turns, not particularly thrilled at encountering Miki again.]

If you were disturbing the peace, I could, but you clearly aren't and I doubt that will change given this party's tone. Anyway, I'm not here to arrest or discipline anyone, nor even to monitor the party.

[Did you say cats? Gratuity's tabby cat, Pig, is also here now, and seems quite pleased to be meeting so many of her own kind that are not clones. Gratuity noticed the celebration, and decided to bring Pig in, just to let her meet the other cats. There's a packet of cat treats in her pocket, although she isn't distributing it yet. She herself is sitting by the wall, watching the cats.]

*Allen normally had no interest in parties and would really rather stay at home and work on his assorted projects. But he was honestly a little bit worried about the victims, and thought he should at least stop by to make sure they were really alright. But that didn't mean he had to make a scene about it...no, he was just lingering off out of the way with a cup of coffee and a slice of cake, watching everyone else mingle.*

*Hello fellow wallflower. Allen's not trying to be particularly sneaky, but it might be easy to fail to notice him walking up next to you with a cup of coffee in one hand if you aren't paying attention. It's an unfortunate talent of his.*

Kind of odd, isn't it?

[If Allen wasn't one of the people Edgeworth was actually keeping an eye out for, that might have happened. As it was, Allen's words were simply met with a nod and a sip of soup.]

Verily. I never once imagined that I would hear of or attend a gathering of this nature. Before my kidnapping, I would even have found the very suggestion of it to be a sick joke.

It's not...impossible where I come from, since cybernetic technology can bring people back from the dead, but it's illegal to do that. Aside from that, the only times I've heard of people coming back from the dead...they're complicated. I definitely never expected to be going to a welcome back party like this.

No technology advanced enough to revive the dead exists in my world, though I know of a man who was brought back from the brink of death by similar means.

[...And then there's the Kurain Channeling Technique. Even thinking about that is leaving Edgeworth looking uncomfortable...]

*Allen himself would rather not talk about Testaments. He hates half of them and the other half are still unpleasant.*

It really makes you wonder just what's doing this that can bring people back from the dead like this...and if it's doing it because it's on our side or because it doesn't want us to be able to get out like that.

[... Well normally he would avoid the bookstore but. Why not. He can always revive if someone tries to kill him again...]

[So Naoya is against a wall, watching the people here and eating his cake. It's good, so he's satisfied for now.]

Or, for that matter, whether it's a voluntary aspect of the situation at all. I've already speculated that our kidnappers may not have perfect control over their power to steal us away due to the fact that our population is neither entirely random nor coherently and consistently targeted; furthermore, we know next to nothing about the mechanics behind the supernatural elements of this place.

...Whatever they are, they're powerful. There was someone here from my world for a while and he was strong enough to warp reality on a whim. Even his subordinates could bend space without any effort. I didn't think there was anything that could be more powerful than him, but he was just as human as either of us here.

[And with that, this conversation has taken a turn for the disturbing for Edgeworth. Even knowing this was a possibility, he'd been unconsciously avoiding thinking too hard about it, instead just trying to pursue suspicious things in front of him.]

Er... no one in my own world had such power. Even the few that I know of who possessed any abilities beyond the norm... were far more limited than that.

It's not exactly common in my world either. I'm not really that clear on the details, but I know there were only two other people with that level of power.

*He gives Edgeworth a brief look, noting the theme of three.*

If whatever's trying to keep us here can bring him down to normal, we don't stand a chance of overpowering it. We're going to have to be more subtle than that.

We would stand the greatest chance if... er, "it" can simply be reasoned with.
