first bout [open]
WHO: Akihiko Sanada and whoever is out during the Dark Hour.
WHEN: June 25th, Dark Hour
WHERE: Wherever there's shadows.
SUMMARY: Resolution and awakening.
RATING: PG, maybe PG13?
WARNINGS: None.
After the initial surprise of arriving in Prospera wore off, it's been business as usual for Akihiko. He spent his first full day on the island, talking to the locals in an attempt to gather information. The only thing different about his person was the cellphone he was carrying, but that wasn't really something he was worried about anyway.
The locals didn't seem to know much and were mostly unhelpful in just about every respect. So, Akihiko enrolled himself in the high school in Prospero and applied to live in the local dorms. Regardless of where he was in the world, he needed to stay on top of his studies. Studies also included training and practice, and until he could acquire his own equipment, he would have to rely on the local and school gyms. So it was back to boxing whenever he had a spare moment.
Unfortunately, the seventeen-year-old boxer isn't much for socializing, so he's kept to himself since that first night he arrived here. He knows there's others here like him, but he's too focused on keeping up with his training to offer anyone his attention. However, it wasn't difficult to notice that the city changed at night, when the clock struck midnight, and once the weekend rolled around, Akihiko decided it was time to investigate. He never expected what he would find...
~
Akihiko is running through the streets of Prospero in an attempt to avoid the shadow-like creatures pursuing him. He's fit and fast on his feet- as a boxer should be, so keeping ahead of the monsters isn't so difficult. He'd taken more than a few hits before realizing he wasn't strong enough to take them on with just his fists. He was forced so flee for he couldn't die tonight. Not in this place. It's no different from that time. I'm still not strong enough. Feelings of the past swell within his chest as he runs and visions from far-off memories flash before his eyes; a burning building and crying children.
This isn't how it should be. I shouldn't be running away! I've been waiting for this! For a chance to put my skills to the test. How can it not be enough? I have to do something! I need more power...
As these thoughts plague his mind, he rounds a corner to cut through an alley when an intense pain shoots through his skull triggering him to stagger. "What the- hell..." He says as his hands come up to hold his head. "What's happening...?" And then a voice rings out:
'I am thou, thou art I.
The time hath come.
Open thine eyes.
And call forth what is within.'
"Who-" he begins to speak, but the sound of the shadows rounding the corner to enter the alley cuts him off. "Tch, damn you. No more running." He turns, ready to try to go another round with the monsters. No matter what happens, he won't run. "I'm ready, you bastards! Come and get it!" In that instant there's a flash of blinding light and a loud screech can be heard along with the clank of a sword; the sounds of tearing flesh fills the air. When the light fades just a lone being is before Akihiko, floating ominously above him.
'I am Caesar... I was born of thee, and I shall walk by thy side... Experience is the teacher of all things.'
And then the manifestation is gone.

But the facts that he was injured and in a weakened human form were irrelevant. He had a job to do out here at night, both looking for answers as to how this place functioned and fighting to protect those who could not fight for themselves. That was his role as a knight, and a foreign situation like Prospero would not distract him from that most basic of things.
Even though it had tried, with that strange hallucination he had seen last night. Cu Chulainn, honestly...perhaps Lancer was more stressed than he realized if he was seeing and hearing such impossible things.
It was hard to mistake the sharp sounds of a blade in combat, and Lancer was running to it as quickly as he could--in place of a lance he held a thin metal pipe, marginally better than being unarmed. By the time he came across Akihiko, Caesar had vanished and the boxer was the only person Lancer saw.
"Are you alright? What happened?"
no subject
He blinks when Lancer appears and completely snaps out of it when he's spoken to. Looking down at his gloved palms, he flips his hands over and flexes them; his attention then shifts back to Lancer. The guy doesn't look like some ordinary civilian, and it looks as if he's been in some sort of scuffle recently himself. However, that is beside the point.
"I'm alright," he says, though, sounds somewhat confused. "I was being pursued by these...shadows, but- something appeared out of nowhere and took them all out before disappearing again. It spoke to me." And now he sounds just a bit insane. Wonderful. "I know it probably sounds crazy..."
no subject
That was not what he'd expected to hear, but the look on Lancer's face was neither of disbelief nor doubt at Akihiko's sanity.
"Those shadows seem to be a common inhabitant of this city at night." Best to start with what Lancer did understand before moving on to what he doubted. "How long have you been here?"
no subject
He's thoughtful for a moment before speaking, "I've been here five days, but have found out very little about the details of why I'm here. This is the first time I've ventured out to investigate the city this late."
no subject
He brought the metal pipe up to rest against his shoulder, giving the area a cautious look for any more Shadows.
"Call me Lancer. I'm sorry, I was so surprised to see someone else here I forgot to introduce myself."
no subject
When Lancer scans the area, so does he. There didn't seem to be anymore, but the ones that attacked him came out of nowhere so one can never be too sure.
He merely nods his greeting. "I'm Akihiko."
no subject
Lancer paused for a moment, seeming uneasy--he wasn't insane. Least of all if another had witnessed a similar occurrence.
"I believe that something similar may have happened to me--if you would rather speak of this in a location less open to attack, we can look for some form of shelter."
no subject
"I don't have a problem with that. Getting out of immediate danger would be better. At least until we can figure out what's going on. We can probably use any nearby building. I definitely want to talk about our experiences."
no subject
"Hopefully they won't decide to converge on us at an inconvenient time." Lancer said half to himself, almost seeming concerned. The previous night's difficulty was not something he wanted to repeat.
no subject
"I'll be ready if they do. I wouldn't mind going another round with one, that's the only way I'll figure out how to beat them."
no subject
"As for how to defeat them," he continued, "they seem like any normal enemy despite appearances. They're solid enough to strike, and smart enough to know when retreat would be better than combat."
no subject
no subject
He walked to a nearby building--some kind of store, judging by appearances--and pushed the door open, cautious enough to make sure there weren't any lurking Shadows before entering.
"...It seems like this one's empty."
no subject
"It'll work for the time being."
And then it's down to business for Akihiko, wasting no time.
"As for what I saw, it was some sort of manifestation? It carried a sword in one hand and a globe in the other. It called itself Caesar- I assume as in Julius Caesar since it resembled him a bit in appearance, but I don't know how that is even possible. It wasn't human."
no subject
"Presumably not, considering it appeared and disappeared so suddenly. I can't claim to have crossed paths with Julius Caesar, but my own experience sounds similar to yours."
no subject
"You had someone, or thing, show itself to you too, then?"
no subject
"I was cornered by a few of those creatures last night--and not exactly unscathed, as you can clearly see. Just as I was about to get back up and fight, I saw...someone. He who called himself CĂș Chulainn; Ireland's prince of light and a hero from an age long past."
When he was satisfied that the basic story had at least been covered, Lancer paused with a thoughtful expression.
"And from last night until right now, I was certain I had hallucinated the whole thing. What exactly do you make of the whole thing?"
no subject
"I'm not sure what to make of it. Had you not found me, I probably would've thought it was a hallucination as well. As I said before, I was being pursued, but there was a moment when my emotions peaked and Caesar appeared. I was also getting ready to go another round with those creatures."
