I am thou, and thou art I [open]
WHO: Homura Akemi, Madoka Kaname, and you
WHEN: June 26th, Dark Hour
WHERE: Around the city.
SUMMARY: In which Personae are awakened.
RATING: PG.
WARNINGS: None.
It was once again midnight, and once again the process of townspeople turning into coffins repeated itself. The water turned red and sticky- Homura had been staying up to see if what happened the night of her arrival would happen again.
And to her surprise it had. She remembered the last time she had been awake for this, the shadows had moved unsettlingly, almost as though they were planning to attack. It was entirely possible the shadows might do so. She wouldn’t put it past them. With that in mind she takes up her bow and some of her grenades before she leaves to explore.
Best to be prepared, after all.

Her thoughts were interrupted by the scenery outside suddenly changing. What? Again? Something was different this time, though. Madoka heard footsteps from behind her hotel room's door. Curious, she walks up to the door's peephole, and glances out.
... Homura? On impulse, Madoka opened her door, with the intention of following the other girl.

If they attacked her she would fight with what she had to the best of her abilities.

... What she saw out the window was more horrifying up close, and she let out a startled gasp. The night sky was a sickening green, carrying the eerily bright yellow moon that glowed against clouds of black. Numerous puddles laid on the streets and sidewalks, some Madoka had noticed during the daytime as water puddles, but the substance was no longer water. In the place of that mundane clear fluid was a deep red, thicker-looking substance. It made Madoka think of blood, but it couldn't be that... could it?
Most disturbing was the black coffins that stood upright here and there with an unsettling red glow. The way they were positioned almost looked like they were pentagonal citizens enjoying night life. No way... could that mean...? Madoka didn't want to believe it, but a morbid imagination she didn't think she had began to run wild.
"Wh... What is... all this...?" Her shock completely shatters her stealth as she takes an instinctive step back. "Could this be... a witch's...?"

That voice... That was Madoka's voice. She should have known her friend would follow her out here despite the dangers of doing so.
Homura stops and turns back. "Go back to the hotel." She couldn't take it if her friend got hurt here of all places.

So, she disregards the admonishment and firmly stands her ground.
"Homura-chan, where are you going?" she asks, very concerned. "What are you going to do at such a late hour? It's dangerous for you too, you know!"
As Madoka continues to speak, she fails to notice an opaque, black, and seemingly squishy mass with arms slowly creeping up on her...

There was no way that Homura would let Madoka get hurt again. The minute she touched the odd black mass, she heard a voice in her head.
I am thou and thou art I.
I am Phoenix of rebirth.
And the ghostly image of her persona shines above her for a minute before fading away. A warmth settled into her as she spoke her first spell.
"Agi!" She summoned a small flame to attack the black mass. It doesn't do very much, but it was better than nothing at all.

Madoka let out a yelp as she felt Homura shove her aside and the impact of pavement against her body. Getting over the shock, she sits up and looks back to see Homura fighting against an unidentifiable creature. Though Madoka wasn't a Puella Magi, she could tell that it wasn't a Witch nor a Familiar. Even more strange was how Homura somehow summoned a large glowing bird to attack it. It couldn't be magic... she was still in normal clothes. What was it...?
"H-Homura-chan! What..."
Whatever the case, someone was fighting for her once again. Once again, she was being a burden to a friend. Madoka finally gets back on her feet as she watches the fight, her hands clenching tightly into fists. She hated her own weakness. Even if Homura was an experienced fighter, it just wasn't fair. If only... she could do something too...!

Thou art I... And I am thou...
Though through curiousity I hath brought forth darkness, within my box I still carry a single light.
I am Pandora, the all-gifted. Let us give hope together.
The figure of a young woman wearing a white dress from an ancient civilization glows above Madoka, and drops a small box before placing her hands on Madoka's shoulders. Instinctively, Madoka holds up her hands to catch it. The box opens, revealing its contents to be glowing light. For some reason... the light shining against Madoka's eyes suddenly made her able to see what that thing weak against.
"H-Homura-chan!" She called out to her friend once again, this time with more resolve thanks to this new information. "It's weak to physical attacks! Can you strike it somehow?"

Homura takes her bow back up from where she dropped it. She was grateful she had thought ahead and brought some arrows with her. One of which she fires at the enemy before looking back at her friend.
"Madoka?" Well... other than the box of light, her friend seemed alright so far.

"Watch out! There's another one coming!" she points to the incoming enemy. "It's weak to fire!"
no subject
Homura closes her eyes and focuses in on Phoenix before delivering another Agi spell at the incoming black blob.
"Are there any more?"
no subject
"I... I don't see anymore..." As soon as Madoka says that, the box in her hands, as well as Pandora, faded away. She blinks, then looks back to Homura. "What did I just do...? It was almost as if... I knew how to do it all along. Do you know what's going on, Homura-chan?"
no subject
She'll turn back to Madoka and take a few steps towards her. The closer she was, the harder it would be for anything to get close enough to Madoka to attack her.
"I'm not sure." And that in itself was bothering her. She just called up a massive bird made up of flame, but she had no idea why she had the power in the first place.

"Hey... Do you suddenly feel kind of tired?"
no subject
Now that Madoka mentioned it, the familiar feeling of fatigue made itself known. Homura shouldered her bow. “Let’s go back.” It wouldn’t do to be ambushed when they were already tired.
no subject
Madoka nodded with compliance. She knew she'd only get in Homura's way if she was tired. Maybe it would be better for them to investigate another day after getting some good rest. She'll follow Homura once the other girl starts making her way back to the hotel.
