WHY: Saori was a weirdo and wanted to go to Caliban for her birthday.

[A few days ago, Saori sent out a mass text to everyone:

"I'm going to Caliban on the 15th. If anyone wants to come along, please come to the tea house at 11:30. I'll provide a small meal afterwards."]

[Saori was feeling rather restless when dealing with the shadows lately. Not to mention it had been some time since they did a run through that mysterious dungeon. Also, though she wasn't going to admit it, it was her birthday. She wasn't the sort to expect gifts and such. She was much more comfortable giving to others instead.]

[It's already 11:30pm and she just waits for people to arrive in the attic base.]

Looking to improve upon your ability to handle violent situations under safety in numbers, I presume?

Precisely. Aside from the fact that my own safety is far from guaranteed in our situation to begin with, I'm ill-equipped to investigate dangerous places as I am. To gain some basic combat experience here -- (under less disturbing circumstances than those of severa months ago, I hope) -- would allow me to make progress towards resolving both of these problems.

I suppose this is a good way to do this. The only way to get combat experience is to basically bootstrap yourself up.

There is worse company to do it in too.

Just be careful. Enclosed quarters provide a limited area to retreat to if you find yourself at a disadvantage. I hope you've at least had some experience fighting in open space before coming here.

This is, at least, not the first time I've fought outside of a training situation. In any case, I primarily intend to stay in the back line; I can only barely handle my weapon, and Forneus's primary use is to gauge the strength of and pinpoint any weaknesses of Shadows.

Which should be of some help. With creatures like these you can not just go all in, guns blazing.

It should be of particular use in picking battles with trainees in mind.

Indeed, though there's no guarantee that a stronger enemy won't notice us and give chase regardless.

That's the chance in any combat situation. You have to trust in your own skills, and that of those around you. Though I will admit, numbers can outweigh skill in certain situations.

So if you're in a group, you will most likely be fine.

The URTV's point is sound. *Wow, it looks like it physically pains him to say that.* That possibility is the entire point behind undertaking field training in a large group, after all.

In that way, I suppose it's not an entirely unfamiliar experience.

Just don't get too complacent and you'll be fine.

In the meantime, try to prepare yourself mentally as well as you can. You'll be of no use if you can't keep a cool head under fire.

Mr. Kukai, I can't say that the idea of ignoring someone you're supposed to be fighting alongside sits well with me.

Margulis, do keep in mind that this is a more favorable circumstance than those you speak of.

You underestimate the depths of my distaste for the URTV. However, I will concede that he's not the worst person I've found myself in a position of needing to ally with.

Regardless of your personal feelings, Margulis, Mr. Kukai is not, in fact, on the opposite side in this circumstance, and you would do well to keep that in mind.

I'll keep my sword pointed at our real enemies, don't worry about that. I can't promise I'll be able to entirely play nice, though. Especially since I highly doubt the URTV will be keeping his mouth shut either.
