Where: a spare room in the basement of the Back-End Bar.

On September 27, everyone will receive a text from Kaiji with the following information:
Poker tonight (game & buy-in tbd), basement of bar, 1:00AM. Anyone welcome.

Of course, he's not taking into account minors, but that doesn't mean they can't sneak in, right?

To anyone who comes, Kaiji will be sitting at a table, shuffling some cards, a case of cheap beer sitting next to him to share with everyone. Several chairs surround the table, and a case of poker chips sits open, waiting to be sorted. Fifty dollars sits on the table in front of Kaiji - that's what he plans for a buy-in for now, but is willing to adjust if need be.

Kaiji will give a nod to anyone who walks in. "Have a seat, grab a drink. Do you know how to play?"

How did Sakurako get in here even though she's only sixteen years old? It is truly a mystery to all. Probably the same way she managed to get into that other bar to sing karaoke the other night - just walking in oblivious to age limits and acting like she belongs there. At any rate, here she is in the basement now, taking a seat at the table.

"I don't have a job yet, so I don't really have a lot of money to bet with... is it okay if I just pay back the $50 buy-in with my winnings at the end of the night?"

"Wait, how old are you? How did you... Never mind." Kaiji sighed. "You gotta have something. You might not win."

"Okay, here, then..."

Sakurako digs into her pocket, coming up with the equivalent of about $10 in yen. It's all she had on her when she arrived in Prospero.

"Is that enough? Like I said, I'll pay the pot back later when I win!"

Kaiji rubbed his forehead. "You're really serious about this, huh. A kid like you shouldn't get mixed up in this kinda stuff, ya know."

Sakurako waves a hand, smiling. "Don't worry about it, I bet on stuff all the time with my friends back home!"

"Seriously? What do you play?"

He starts dealing cards and chips now.

"Hmm? Nothing much, really... I just make bets with them on stuff. You know, like which class is going to come in first when exam results get posted or why Negi-sensei looks so tired all the time in the mornings."

She picks up the cards as they're dealt. Clearly poker is something she's never played before.

"You sh-- Never mind." It was 5-card draw, so it wasn't a big deal. "But you've never played poker before, obviously."

"Nope! Is it hard?" She smiles, looking down at the cards in her hand.

"Not really. Here." He slid over a list of hands (http://www.casino-tribune.com/images/rank_of_poker_hands.gif) for her to look at, and gave her a quick run-down of the rules.

"Think you can handle that?"

Sakurako picks up the list, looking it over. She glances back and forth between it and her cards a few times, and eventually nods.

"Okay! I got it!"

"You wanna draw any new cards, or are ya happy with what you have?"

Sakurako blinks a few times at her cards, and then looks back at the little reference card Kaiji gave her. And then back to her cards.

"Hmmmmmm..."

She thinks for a few moments before giving a smile and a nod.

"Nope, these are fine!"

"If you say so. You wanna raise the bet or keep it where it is?"

"Max bet is ten dollars for now. But since that's all you bet... Let's say five."

"Okay! Then I raise five!"

Sakurako grins, enthusiastically pumping a fist in the air as the other holds her cards.

Kaiji throws down five dollars, calling the bet and shaking his head.

"Okay, time to see what you've got."

Kaiji has a pair of threes and a pair of tens. He figures he's got this.

Because spiking the ball right away is both fun and character-appropriate

"All right! Here!"

Sakurako lays down her cards in a messy jumble, but amid the jumble is an ace-high straight flush - all spades. More commonly known as a royal straight flush. In the tiebreaking suit, even.

"That's the best hand, right?"

"WH-WHAT?!" Kaiji shoots up from his chair, looking over the cards, rearranging them to make sense.

A royal straight flush.

Looking stunned and pale, Kaiji flops back into his chair.

"How... How did you do that?!"

"Huh? What do you mean? That's what you dealt me!"

Sakurako blinks, looking confused. And then she points at the pot.

"So that means I win, right?"

Sakurako smiles, giving a good-natured laugh as she rakes in her winnings.

"Wow, I've already more than doubled what I came in with!"

Kaiji picked up the remaining deck to make sure everything had been shuffled. He'd done it a dozen times himself - there was no cheating tonight, no reason to. Just a friendly, open game, something for fun and a little profit. They were shuffled just fine, of course.

"Y-Yeah... Shit. You are one lucky kid, do you have any idea?"

"Yeah, my friends always tell me that too," Sakurako explains as she rakes in her winnings. "I usually win all the lunch tickets when we're betting on which class is going to get the top test scores and stuff like that, too."
