WHO: Serenade and you!
WHEN: June 26th, Dark Hour
WHERE: Shadowville.
SUMMARY: Serenade's awakening.
RATING: PG.
WARNINGS: None.
She had swore to herself she would not wish for her prince to be there by her side, fighting off this evil that threatened them together. She swore she would stay strong even in this foreign land where a chance to return home to her beautiful Baroque and its people was all but nonexistent. She made such promises, but here she stood using her stave for support, hoping Crescendo would suddenly appear before her and expertly destroy these persistent monsters.
It was dark, eerily so. She couldn't remember what caused her to leave the safety of her bed to wander outside at midnight, what urged her to bring her stave along. but somehow she was here now. Perhaps it was the faint, nearly indistinguishable whisper in her mind that brought her to her senses, allowing her to realize she had become surrounding by what looked like moving pools of mud and blood mixed together. Immediately she brandished her weapon, already chanting the verse to summon Verbum: Celebrus to promptly extinguish these unfamiliar enemies. And yet, when the prayer ended, there wasn't a single glimmer on her stave. Serenade looked upon it in shock, but there was no time to ponder if she had somehow failed in her preparation for the attack. One of the slimy substances lunged for her, and she just barely managed to bash across the ground with a swing of her stave. Deciding that lingering could be fatal, she ran.
But the monsters eventually caught up, and Serenade found herself unable to use any of her abilities to land a successful counter. Even her healing talents were as if they never existed in the first place. All she could do was swing and swing, and swing her weapon some more to fight off the creatures, but the dents on their exterior were faint. It was only a matter of time when Serenade was the one receiving the hits, and she eventually collapsed to the ground in fatigue. But took a breath and struggled back up, holding onto a jutting piece of her stave to properly balance herself. She gazed upon the swarm of black somethings ,and knew then that there was nothing she could do.
'...Prince Crescendo, I... It appears I will not be able to return to you.'
Her legs shook, dangerously close to giving out on her so she would fall to the ground once more.
'I know not the source of that which deprives me of my abilities, Prince... I cannot win this fight. I...I am so sorry.'
One creature, presumably the leader of the group, inched forward in an ominous manner, as if it knew its prey was utterly defenseless and would not fight back. But the princess shook her head, startling the shadow.
'No! Even if...there is little chance of escaping this battle, I must...I must try! My prince...anyone, please! A sign is all I ask for. I must return to Baroque-'
"I will not lose my life here!" She announced this in a strong voice, a sharp contrast to her tattered appearance. It was then that her energy left her, and she collapsed once more to the ground...
A voice. Serenade picked up her head, staring tiredly ahead of her. The voice she heard as she left the hotel, the voice that led her here...she could hear it now.
"Who...are you?" A transparent silhouette focused itself in front of Serenade, blocking the group of shadows that reached for her. The ghost gradually solidified and a luminous aura outlined the figure of a beautiful young woman.
"My name is Kikuri-Hime. It seems you are in need of my assistance." The woman spoke and almost immediately afterward, a blinding red light burst before Serenade's eyes. She shut them tightly, lowering herself to the ground in pain. When she dared to look up again, she was surprised to find the black creatures gone. Not a trace of them survived the brilliance Kikuri-Hime created.
Kikuri-Hime herself was no where to be seen as well, but Serenade felt a presence on her shoulders, easing the pain away from her body. The soft and comforting sensation forced her eyes closed, and Serenade sat limp on her legs.

she smiles faintly now. ] Thank you very much. I pray you were not introduced to the same trouble as I was...?

[He glance around, before looking back at her with an sheepish expression.] My sense is direction is...terrible. Do you know where the hotel is?
no subject
Yes, I believe so... I am afraid it is still quite a distance ahead, however. [ she did run all the way out here, after all. ] Allen, may I ask you a question?

Still it didn't quite help that she was running blindly in the dark now getting away from the Shadows. She didn't know what to call them but their eerie glowing eyes made her uneasy. She kept running. The girl had not grasped the ability to summon anything yet, nor was she even aware that there was something that existed inside her at this point. She rounded another corner only to catch sight of a blinding red light before she shook her head and gaining her somewhat decent night vision back.
There was someone there. She seemed like she was hurt or at least it appeared as though she was hurt. She rushed towards the girl making sure that those things had left her alone for now. She called briefly so that she didn't surprise the person when she got close, "HEY!" she shouted, "You okay?!" She didn't know what happened but she thought maybe they were hurt.
no subject
She pushed her muscles to their limit in trying to stand, wanting to properly face the woman.
"Ah..."
no subject
"You okay there?" she mused, even though she could tell the girl was anything but okay but she couldn't help but ask that question to make sure she was somewhat okay.
no subject
"Thank you very much... I should be well, with some time."
no subject
"You don't have to thank me. It wouldn't be right to have you pass out here in a place like this. Should we find a place to sit down?" she mused. She looked like she could use some time to sit down.
no subject
"Yes, please, if you would be so kind... I am afraid I require your assistance in walking."
no subject
"Of course. I wouldn't mind helping you. I wouldn't want to leave an injured person here alone," she replied smiling briefly as she started to walk slowly. Hopefully they can find some building or at least benches somewhere to sit.
no subject
"... You're very kind to assist a stranger like me. I must ask for your forgiveness for such a short introduction, but you may call me Serenade."
no subject
"Ah you're welcome. Nah, you don't need to ask for forgiveness. I'm not really into that formal stuff. Nice to meet you Serenade I'm Ishtar," she replied smiling.
no subject
Formality was very natural for her, but she could understand that it may be tiring for others. Still, it felt improper to act so casually even in this sort of situation. First things first, though- she had to concentrate on not stumbling over her own feet.
"It is my pleasure to make your acquaintance, Ishtar." Then, she adds as an afterthought in a concerned tone: "I pray you were fortunate enough to avoid the trouble I have experienced tonight."
no subject
Ishtar could understand that. She grew up with formality most of her life so this wasn't much of a surprise. It just seemed unnecessary to her considering she wasn't expecting anyone to be this polite but she appreciates it nonetheless. Ishtar continued to guide her until she spotted a sidewalk. It seemed pretty decent enough to sit down and it was open enough for them to escape if those Shadow like things came back out again to get them.
"Somewhat," she replied frowning at that, "I got caught by something. It was chasing me but I think it's gone now," she laughed nervously, "What happened back there? I saw a bright light and you hurt."
no subject
"I see... It is a relief to know you were not injured, at the very least." Now, her eyes fall back to the ground. She would like to know the answer to Ishtar's question herself, if she could remember all of what happened. There was a light, a woman...
"In all honesty, my memory is clouded and I do not recall the events all too clearly. However, I do remember...seeing a woman. A young, beautiful woman wearing a crimson gown. I believe her to have summoned the light. Perhaps- perhaps those black monsters disappeared because of that woman?"
no subject
She didn't want to push it but she asked just loosely so that if she felt like answering she could but Ishtar didn't want her to feel uncomfortable.
"A woman? I didn't see her at all but yeah maybe? I guess there are a few people who live here that might know how to take care of those things. IT's alright. I Was just wondering since it was bright and all," she replied with a small laugh, "Are you feeling a bit better? We'll move in a few minutes but I didn't want you to exhaust yourself walking too far."
no subject
When he stumbled upon Serenade it was mostly by chance; Lancer was doing little more than wandering the city with a thin metal pipe as a makeshift spear.
"Milady Serenade." He knelt down beside her, calm and respectful. "Are you wounded?"
no subject
"Lancer..." Her voice is quiet and barely audible. She attempts to shake her head, wanting to answer his question to the best of her ability.
"My body, it... I am not sure if I am able to stand."
no subject
Calm and determined, Lancer was nothing but a perfectly professional knight when the situation called for it.
"I believe they are less likely to attack those not wandering alone."
no subject
"That will not be necessary. If I may have a moment, I can try-" She steadies the base of her stave to the ground and attempts to use it to push herself up. She makes sure to be careful and to take her time in order to not stress her muscles any further.
no subject
Lancer straightened up as well, an obvious look of concern on his face.
"Are you sure you're going to be alright, princess?"
no subject
"Thank you. I will be fine. I..." She recalls when she first encountered the monsters and discovering none of her powers were with her anymore. "I am without any of my abilities. Something, somehow, has rendered me powerless against those creatures. Have you fought against them?"
no subject
Lancer shifted his grip slightly on the pipe in his hand--it wasn't a lance, but as a weapon he could admittedly do worse.
"Don't be concerned. I assure you that you'll be safe with me."
no subject
no subject
Lancer knew full well that these things could and likely would get tougher--surely not all of them were quite so small. And even if they were, if fought and defeated enough they would more than likely adapt and improve.
no subject
"I confess I have not engaged in battle on my own for quite some time now. However- this may sound strange at first, but I beg you to listen without preconception." She pauses to gather her thoughts.
"I believe...I was not alone tonight. Those creatures were not felled by me. A...a woman aided me. She appeared to me as a ghost would."
no subject
Another with a similar story...it was more than mere coincidence now. What Lancer had tried to dismiss as hallucination was becoming more and more likely by the day. But how was that even possible? What was the exact nature of these manifestations and what was their purpose?
"...I've seen something very similar myself; for me it was a knight in white armor. Though I can only claim to have witnessed this once, a couple of nights ago."
