Time for Tanabata!

WHO: Haruhi and whoever else is around!
WHEN: July 7th, early evening.
WHERE: Roof of the Bayview Hotel
SUMMARY: It's Tanabata~ will Hikoboshi and Orihime meet tonight?
RATING: PG.
WARNINGS: None.

Even though she was now in America, Haruhi wasn't going to let one of her favorite holidays go by without notice!  The high schooler had gathered all the necessary items for her own tanabata celebration on the roof of the hotel.  Earlier in the day she had hunted down bamboo potted plants (or what appeared to be bamboo; if it wasn't perfect that was fine), and gathered colored pieces of paper and string. The weather had managed to cooperate with the holiday as well; the skies were clear, and though they were a bit dimmer due to the city lights, the stars could be clearly seen.

"So I figured out last year that it would take 25 years for my wish to get to one star and 16 years to the other," Haruhi mumbled to herself. "But if they're coming from America would it be different?  Maybe a little faster since Americans are so speedy and impatient."  She flopped down on the ground and pulled a magic marker's cap off with her mouth.

"Wish time!" Ignoring everything around her, Haruhi began scribbling her wishes on two different pieces of paper.

"I can't say. Are there Biologis Magos who would do such a thing here?"

He looks down at her rather tolerantly. "At any rate, what are you doing up on the roof, Mamzel?"

Lulzy icon for you

"I haven't heard of it, no. I take it it has something to do with the night or the stars?"

Garviel looks up again, a thoughtful expression plain on his square-jawed face.

"Where I am from, we celebrate very few holidays, in all honesty. We are a secular society and as such the idea of 'holy days' to us seems rather distastful."

"Ah... gods. A story of superstition and romance. Interesting. Do you have a book on it by chance? I enjoy studying such things when not training."

He shrugs for a moment.

"Indeed I am not. I am Cthonian. I come from.... well, I don't know which star it would be here. In Terra's sky it is the closest star, though."

Prepare for more mind explosions

"No. I am not a Xenos. I am a Space Marine, from the 30th Millennium of mankind, during the period of the great crusade. We are the sword of the Emperor, and the protectors of humanity. We appear to be in my past, I suppose. My name is Garviel Loken. And what is your name, Mamzel?"

The immense warrior looks down at her with honest curiosity in his gray eyes.

Garviel's huge hand will engulf hers, holding it somewhat delicately, and shake her hand in a firm manner. "Your welcome is appreciated, and your courtesy noted. Tell me more of your brigade, is it a military organization then?"

"I... see."

Garviel blinks at her, completely nonplussed for the moment.

"I am glad I was what you were looking for?" He says, rather gingerly, wondering if this the right thing to say.

"But why does the world need to be overloaded with fun to save it?"

"Ah, I see. And how did you end up in Prospero, if I may ask?"

Garviel definitely didn't understand, but the girl was interesting, at least. He has a feeling this is probably one of those people saber suggested needed protection, after all.

"That is... actually a pretty good idea, honestly. How may I be of assistance to you, young lady?"

If nothing else, the Astartes is always willing to help humans who are in trouble, even if they don't necessarily see it that way themselves.

"I will be happy to. Is there a way I can contact you easily?"

Garviel hesitates, and says, "But what would you define as strange? This whole world is strange to me."

"I shall be on the lookout, of course. But I thought we were to exterminate the monsters that come at midnight, anyway. That is my intent, certainly."

Garviel looks at his cell phone and says, "Ah, you mean the cogitator and vox-caster device that we were provided with? I was wondering what it was called, I thought it might have been named a Nokia."

After all, there are no brand names in the grim dark future where there is only war.

"I haven't fought the monsters here, but a fellow named Lancer has, and he told me about them when I arrived. Have you spoken to him? Dark hair?"

He seems a bit surprised, he thought those drawn here would be fairly cohesive but this does not appear to be the case.

"I'm sure you'll see him around sooner rather than later." Garviel says, attempting to comfort her, detecting disappointment from her sigh.
