Time for Tanabata!

SUMMARY: It's Tanabata~ will Hikoboshi and Orihime meet tonight?

Even though she was now in America, Haruhi wasn't going to let one of her favorite holidays go by without notice!  The high schooler had gathered all the necessary items for her own tanabata celebration on the roof of the hotel.  Earlier in the day she had hunted down bamboo potted plants (or what appeared to be bamboo; if it wasn't perfect that was fine), and gathered colored pieces of paper and string. The weather had managed to cooperate with the holiday as well; the skies were clear, and though they were a bit dimmer due to the city lights, the stars could be clearly seen.

"So I figured out last year that it would take 25 years for my wish to get to one star and 16 years to the other," Haruhi mumbled to herself. "But if they're coming from America would it be different?  Maybe a little faster since Americans are so speedy and impatient."  She flopped down on the ground and pulled a magic marker's cap off with her mouth. 

"Wish time!" Ignoring everything around her, Haruhi began scribbling her wishes on two different pieces of paper.

Allen was mostly wandering around the hotel, familiarising himself with the layout again. His sense of direction, or the lack thereof, means he tend to find himself elsewhere.

Which was how he found himself opening the door to the rooftop.

"No, no, I used that one last year..." Haruhi hurriedly scratched out her writing with her pen. Throwing it aside, she turned to pick up another piece of paper, when she spotted the figure at the door.

"Hello?" She couldn't really see from here; the light wasn't very good on the roof.

He walked out of the door, so that he's finally outside.

"Hello. Am I interrupting you?"

"Whoa...." Catching a full glimpse of the guy, Haruhi got excited. Throwing her paper aside, she jumps up and runs right up to the newcomer, peering at his face.

"How did you get that tattoo-thing? It's so cool!"

Allen was startled when she's suddenly close to his face. He knows his appearance was unusual, plenty of people at school reacted to it.

"The one over my eye?"

Naoto hasn't really gotten the chance to explore the entire hotel so today she finally makes her way up to the roof only to see that someone else is here already.

And...they're talking to themselves. She approaches quietly, noting that this person is scribbling something down about what did she say...a wish?

"What are you doing?"

"What does it look like I'm doing?" Putting the final character on her paper with a flourish, Haruhi thrust it up in the newcomer's face.

"It's Tanabata! I'm making my wishes!"

She looks over the newcomer again, squinting at her face. "You're Japanese, right? Don't tell me you've never done this before!"

She doesn't flinch when the paper is shoved in her face and instead looks at it with a not so pleased expression then pushes it to the side.

To be honest, she had forgotten all about Tanabata. "Yes, I'm Japanese but I haven't celebrated Tanabata since I was a child."

Haruhi frowns slightly. "Well that's just silly. Wishes aren't less effective when you're older or anything."

"It isn't that. I just find the act childish." Not to mention she's always been too busy with cases to do such a thing.

A very large man steps out onto the roof, hunching a bit as he does so, balancing a trifle precariously. He is powerfully built, bulked out with muscle, and doesn't initially appear to notice Haruhi. He's just looking at the stars himself, his craggy face very pale in the moonlight, and normally blond hair taking on a silver color to it, even with the diffuse glow of the city making the illumination less stark.

"There we go..." With a scribble, Haruhi finishes her writing and gets up. Turning towards the plants, she catches a glimpse of the newcomer. She stops suddenly, transfixed by the size of the guy.

"Whoa... you're ripped!"

Garviel blinks down at the dynamic little girl, bemused by her sudden reaction to him. He's used to mortals dropping their gaze, or speaking in hushed tones.... but then, he's used to being a Legiones Astartes. He looks down at his shirt, touching it after a moment.

"The shirt is ripped? I must not have noticed when I put it on." He gingerly pats around his chest and waist, obviously looking for the (nonexistent) hole.

Haruhi ignored the comment. If television had taught her anything, guys who took steroids weren't always the brightest. And honestly, how could this guy look that good without 'em?

"Is there a body-building contest in town or something?" Haruhi asked, walking around the guy, checking him out.

"I can't say. Are there Biologis Magos who would do such a thing here?"

He looks down at her rather tolerantly. "At any rate, what are you doing up on the roof, Mamzel?"

...this was strange. These humans had such odd customs in this era, didn't they? Lancer, wearing ordinary civilian clothes, simply stood around looking as casual as he could.

Though he couldn't hide the curious look on his face as he examined the potted plants nearby. What on earth were these doing here?

Haruhi looked up as someone else walked on the roof. "Hey! Did you make your wish yet? I have plenty of paper and markers!"

"My...wish? What do you mean?"

Lancer sincerely hoped this wasn't some obvious thing he was missing here. It was complicated enough to act normal without things like this springing up all over the place.

Haruhi raises her eyebrows. "You're not Japanese are you? Today's Tanabata, the star festival! Part of the festival is making a wish to send to Hikoboshi and Orihime."

She jumps up and runs over to the newcomer. Part of the duties of the SOS Brigade were informing the ignorant masses! In this case, a single mass would do.

"Come here, I'll show you!" She grabs his hand and pulls him over to her supplies.

What. Lancer was used to women acting impulsively around him, but this was something very unexpected. But he didn't really protest when Haruhi started pulling him, no matter how startled he was.

Tatsuma had seen her collect the potted plants and, well, his curiosity had been piqued. Following her silently to the roof, he watches as she begins to write. After a moment, he utters but one word:

"Tanabata?"

"Of course!" Haruhi looked up with a grin. "Want to make a wish?"

Grabbing a couple pieces of paper and a marker, she hands it over. "Make sure it's good! You only get one chance a year!"

With a nod, he grabs slips and pauses to think up some wishes.

Ah... That would work. Uncapping the marker, he scribbles down his wishes.
