[Early in the Morning, everyone who was reported as murdered will get the following text:]

Hey! ! know you all have been through a lot and probably feel k!inda down so come to the bookstore ton!ght at 7 and well cheer you up!!

Action: Gil's bookstore

[Anyone who comes into Gil's bookstore around 7 am will find it decked out with a banner saying "Welcome Back!" On a table stands a sheet cake frosted with the letters "You're Alive again!" and a post of soup simmering away on a hot plate. Around both of these are a number of smaller plates holding a much fancier cake, strawberry and all, each with the name of one of the victims written on it. The cafe cats are decorated with a ribbon of their own, to varying degrees of annoyance to each of them. They have been joined by Sakurako's cats Cookie and Biscuit, who seem to be enjoying their stint as the center of interest to a number of their fellow felines.

In the back stands a small Karaoke machine, beeping away in an attempt to generate interest. The couches and chairs have been pushed flush with the outer bookshelves to create a bit more space for people to mingle.

Miki is sitting at the counter, waiting to get coffee (or I guess, sell books) to anyone who is interested in buying some extra stuff.]

(I would point out that I mentioned it in confidence for a reason, but given her motive for spreading it she wouldn't have cared, and there's nothing to be done about it now.)

You do realize that by your actions, you may have complicated my effort to create a system of justice amongst ourselves, do you not?

Y-yeah, I guess it wasn't the greatest of ideas. I was pretty angry with you.

Then all I can do is hope that the damage was minimal and that this, too, proves to be an opportunity for you to learn a valuable lesson.

That I should lie about people's unpunished crimes?

No, that you should think twice before smearing another's reputation.

What one wishes to do and what one ought to do aren't always the same thing. Otherwise, there wouldn't be such a thing as crime at all. I would only go so far as to call that particular series of actions a mistake, however.

I dunno, now no one will trust you fully so hopefully noone will run your secret courts all by yourself.

Wh-- it was never my intention to keep our court behind closed doors relative to other kidnappees in the first place! To say nothing of the fact that it would take at least a judge and a defense attorney in addition to myself to run such a thing!

Then how would you propose that my own bias be kept in check? Who else do you believe would be qualified to assess such choices?

I dunno. A bunch of guys in Mao suits in Tokyo told me one day that elections are too corrupt and that the best way would be to have a series of bigger groups of people make all the decisions. A polite burro or something.

They also tried to sell me a newspaper with no pictures in it. I dunno. It's way over my head.

("Polite burro"? Could she mean political bureau?)

Unfortunately, my experience lies in the enforcement of laws rather than in their creation, and I've encountered relatively few people here whose political experience doesn't come from a time when people were beheaded on the basis of mere suspicion.

I'm not that sort of man anymore! Can we please focus on how to prevent such tragedies in the future rather than on the fact that they've occurred in the past?!

There's one vital difference that you're overlooking, Miss Onimaru -- she continues to believe in such methods.

OBJECTION!

I have been trying! In fact, I spoke to one woman just last week who seems as though she may be a good candidate for a judge and is willing to learn about the job. I also have two people working on a form of punishment for criminals like our serial killer. There are still several matters that need to be addressed, but why do you think I'm here if not to speak with others who have an interest in the form our justice system takes?!

Don't point that finger at me! I don't keep track of everything you do. I thought you came here because parties were illegal or something else to ruin tonight.

If parties in and of themselves were illegal, I would think that would have become obvious by now given how regularly kidnappees throw them. Furthermore, if I were motivated to ruin parties, than why would there have been no signs of anyone attempting to do so since my arrival four months ago?

This is the first one I've thrown and you seem determined to ruin my fun so I'm sure you'd find a way.
