WHERE: Mainly that bookstore Nao hasn't bothered thinking of a name for yet.
SUMMARY: Lancer is totally normal. What would ever make you think otherwise?

[A; morning]

[Anyone walking around the bookstore that morning would likely find Lancer in civilian clothes and glasses. He knew the latter was probably something of a pointless disguise, but if it made him look like less of a threat to anyone that could prove themselves a threat? It was at least worth a try.]

[Pointless or not, he'd more or less gotten used to it by now. And that particular morning, he would be whistling absentmindedly while reorganizing whatever shelf he was currently standing in front of. Maybe it was a little slower-paced than he was used to, but life as a human wasn't really half bad. When you put aside the whole 'serial killer running around' and 'inhuman monsters overrunning the city at night', at least.]

[B; late afternoon]

[Later on, one could find the glasses-wearing former Servant sitting on a bench not far from the bookstore, focused on the hardcover volume of something-or-other in his hand. It was difficult to tell by sight alone just how aware Lancer was of his surroundings--he seemed completely distracted, after all.]

[But the instinct of a Knight of Fianna was something that didn't fade even with a human body. If someone approached, he'd notice--if someone were to attack for whatever reason, they'd be met with an expert in unarmed combat.]

[C; early evening]

[Lancer walked back in the direction of the hotel, looking completely casual. Blending in, as he already knew, was simple as long as he didn't have to talk. It was a little trickier when the aspect of hiding who he was as a Servant and as a heroic spirit was brought into it.]

[But if that was what he had to do here until they found some kind of answers regarding who or what was responsible for this situation, then he'd simply live with it. He'd lasted this long, after all. But with people like Ryuunosuke and Gilgamesh running around, lancer was starting to doubt the rest of them would be able to preserve the secrecy of Servants and the Holy Grail War much longer.]

[It's after school now, and she was heading to the book store. Maybe there would be something on the cities history.

It couldn't hurt to try.

She does notice Lancer reading... something, and she does remember talking to him a few times on the phone systems. So she'll walk over.

It's possible that book would be relevant to her interests.]

This? [He glanced over at Homura, smiling faintly.] It's a book on mythology--someone gave me the idea of looking through it to determine just what kind of origin those Shadows might actually have.

Not yet, unfortunately. But truthfully, I'm not sure if I will; I doubt things like this have ever existed anywhere else.

[Mainly because he'd never seen or heard of such things in his lifetime. Caster could possibly have summoned something like them, but he was definitely nowhere near this city. If a demigod couldn't place where creatures such as this came from, who could?]

It raises the question of how and why they're here.

[They were a bit similar to witch's familiars and witches themselves. But they weren't quite the same thing, for one these shadows seemed to work on a much larger scale.]

I wish I could answer that. I'm pretty sure everyone's asking the same.

What I've read so far doesn't mention the shadows. [Which is unfortunate, because she's been reading up on a lot of this place's history]

It's possible that the building has something to do with it. [Maybe she could do some research into that as well.]

The building...yes, that is a possibility. I can only assume they're originating from somewhere.

It's the only one that changes at midnight. [Hm... Did something happen there?]

As far as we know. If this occurrence is contained to one city, then you're right. But if it's the whole country or possibly the entire world, I seriously doubt the source of those creatures could be one building alone.

That's true. [There's a pause as she thinks about this.

Do the shadows show up any other places? Does the Midnight Hour happen everywhere?]

We'd have to check other areas outside of Prospero.

Some of us will have to continue investigating that building as well, of course. If that is the only source of them, I'd imagine we'll have to find a way to destroy it in order to stop them.

Destroying the building? [Homemade explosives-- she'd have a harder time of getting the materials here.]

There's no guarantee that it'll stop the Shadows though.

I couldn't agree more, but where do we go to find it? Nearly every person I've spoken to has been just as lost as I am.

... Maybe if we continue fighting the shadows, and exploring the building we'll find something.

It seems like our only option at the moment.

Can't say I'm thrilled about fighting an enemy I know nothing about in this state, but you're right. We don't really have a choice if we want answers.

There's no better way to find out about an enemy than to engage them in combat yourself. So I'm sure we'll learn more about them soon enough.

...Forgive me if this sounds strange, but have you seen anything else particularly unusual? Aside from those creatures, I mean.

[He still couldn't quite place why he'd hallucinated any knight of his home country, let alone Cu Chulainn himself. And Lancer was even more concerned that he didn't seem to be the only one to encounter such a thing.]
