[ The restaurant is abuzz with activity this evening! After much pleading and deliberation, the management has graciously allowed three "experienced Servants" to wait tables and to serve wonderful guests to some of the fanciest, most elegant French Cuisine on this side of Prospero Island! Good idea in theory, except somehow management didn't get the notice to perform a background check on these "professional servants"... ]

Is skill at understatement something necessary for a ruler? I've noticed it's something of a recurring theme.

There are many qualities desirable in rulers - that one is valuable, if not necessary. My senators tend to be understated only when it suits them.

The way you say that makes it seem as though they're all positively charming fellows.

[All things considered, Senators, Advisors, Viziers, et all, probably haven't changed all that much throughout the multiverse.]

I would never speak ill of my senate. Suppose that Duke Gaddos heard any of the rumors of ill-conduct on his part - why, he might burst a vein, and I might have to find someone younger and less corrupt.

[As much as he wants to tease her about her own age (and what a wonderful setup for it, at that!) There has to be a bit of professionalism in this madhouse...]

Question is, would that be a problematic hunt? How big is your nation, anyway?

The oldest and largest on the continent. I'm sure someone out there must be qualified.

Largest, huh. Sounds like it'd be a long process on that grounds alone.

Even if it were not a matter of messy politics, it would be.

[Sigh.] You must have other tables to wait on, I'm sure. I'll wait for my food.

...Well, if I'm going to be honest. That, [A gesture towards a gaudy, golden waiter.] and that [A similar gesture towards an astounding bundle of energy in a waitress uniform] seem to be having some kind of competition, and just might be sniping a few tables away from my assigned area.

...If I were to put it simply, I've got enough extra time to play favorites and jaw with the people at the tables I do have, a bit.

In that case, I would be more than happy to keep you away from those two, if you'll accept that.

I wouldn't mind taking it easy and watching the show either, no. I'll have to at least look like I'm working, however.

I could easily offer a series of occupying but simple demands.

Then I suppose I'll note that the phrase they try to drill into new staff's heads would be, "the customer is always right."

In that case, I would like my dessert now, please. And for my dessert I want a small selection of everything offered on that menu.

These are all delicious. Or else they look so. You wanted an explanation - they're treats to have after a meal that aren't very healthy foods, but taste amazing.
