Dark Hour Log

[The clock has struck midnight and something in the air has changed. Time’s stopped, people have transformed into coffins, the coloring of the world seems all wrong. And worse, you might notice something moving in the corner of your eye. Something dark, shadow-like, and definitely foreboding.]

[Make your own threads, tag each other, etc.!  This is for Monday Night, and when your characters will first be here experiencing this!]

Ainosuke stopped abruptly, nearly stumbling over himself in his haste. He quickly turned, looking behind him, and perking up when he saw a source to the voice he'd heard. The boy didn't look much older than him and didn't seem like much of a threat. So he turned the rest of the way around, jogging a bit to come up closer to this person. Ainosuke breathed deeply, stopping a few feet away from the blonde.

"... hey." He managed a small, awkward smile, still clearly out of breath. Making the first move for conversation was something he was leaving up to the other for now.

Momiji watched the boy, matching the awkward smile with one of his own. He shuffled a little, rubbing his arms. "Hey. Um, do you know where we are?"

He frowned slightly, glancing up at the sky. "I'm not really sure what's going on right now."

Shaking his head, Ainosuke shoved his hands in his pockets for the time being. He kept glancing around himself as though he expected something to move or to pop out of nowhere, though he hadn't seen anything that would lead him to suspect them. Aside from a bunch of coffins, puddles that looked like blood, a lack of power, a lack of people, and a really weird colored sky.

Okay. That was probably it, then.

Ainosuke looked back before he started speaking. "I don't know. I just woke up here. ... I actually woke up almost laying in the street. I've never seen this place before, either... None of these buildings look familiar."

Momiji sighed, lips pursing as he stared at some point in the distance. From the way the other boy had been running, he hadn't really thought that any good news could be given. But it was still disappointing, and a little unnerving, that someone else was in the same predicament of not knowing what was going on. It was starting to feel more and more like the set up for a bad horror movie.

"I don't recognize this place either. And I don't know how I got here." Momiji said quietly. "I was just walking down the street with my family and then, I was here. I wonder if this is a kidnapping."

Now his protective instincts were kicking in. Ainosuke usually took it upon himself to take care of anyone who wasn't as strong as him. It wasn't that he was assuming the other needed to be protected, but he tended to assume he was stronger than most people and took the initiative anyway.

Ainosuke moved closer, standing at Momiji's side and making sure to stay closeby just in case anything would happen. He hadn't seen anything strange yet -- well, stranger than what he'd already encountered -- but he was still on such high alert that he couldn't allow himself to relax.

Hearing the word 'family' made his stomach twist a bit, though the feeling it brought up was quickly shoved aside. 'Kidnapping' also pinged him, especially since they had been dealing with kidnapping cases back home for a few weeks.

"You don't remember anything between then and now?"

Momiji didn't protest the sudden closeness in proximity. He'd tended to be a touchy person by nature, really how many times had Kyo yelled at him because of that, and the situation made the need to be close to people all the more prominent. He turned toward the other boy slightly, eyes grateful.

"No. Sorry." Momiji shook his head sharply, gaze casting back to the ground. He eyebrows furrowed in thought. "I think I should remember if someone grabbed me, but it's just..." He broke off shrugging. "It's like I blinked and then, this."

"Even with being drugged you'd think I'd remember something."

"It's hard to tell. They're coming out with all sorts of new things these days." Out of reflex, Ainosuke messed with his wrist, rubbing at it. He could still recall exactly how he'd felt earlier that night, the anger building up in his system to where he couldn't take it anymore. It had just been an experiment, but it was a very dangerous drug that was now released in the black market. Who could tell what other things they had worked on?

"But, it's all right. Just stay with me for now and we'll see if we can figure something out." He kept doing his best to smile, at least confident in his ability to protect someone and be encouraging. He hoped.

Momiji shrugged, reaching up to tug at the ear of his rabbit shaped backpack. All of his knowledge on drugs came from either watching Hatori give out medicine or listening to his well meaning talks on using. "I guess so. But I don't see nay marks from it."

Momiji smiled back, nodding. Even if the other boy had suggested splitting up, Momiji wouldn't have stood for it. From all of his cousin's stories, he knew that was the one thing that spelled doom. "Do you think anyone else is here?"

Ainosuke didn't feel comfortable telling the other that there were easily other ways of getting drugs into people's systems, since he didn't want to look more suspicious than he already felt. He also didn't want to make the other boy worry enough that he might wander off, rather than staying with Ainosuke. For now, he started leading the way, walking around the town more and keeping his pace slow, so that the other could easily keep up with him.

"I haven't seen anyone else, but that's why we're going to keep looking."
